In the weldment environment, use a combination of welding-specific and assembly commands. In the assembly environment, convert the assembly to a weldment.

Once converted, you add the weld-specific design intent. In assembly weldments, you create assemblies, optionally add assembly features to prepare models for welds, add the weld as either a solid or cosmetic feature, and then add more assembly features for final machining operations. Once the weldment model is complete, all parts and features are saved to a single assembly file and called a weldment. All weldment information, including detailed welding symbols and solid fillet weld bead annotations, can be recovered automatically in drawings.

Depending on how you create the weldment, you can also create drawings representing the different states of the weldment. You create weldment assemblies two ways:. Specifying an assembly as a weldment makes the Weld tab and browser available and applies the default weldment template.

If converted from an assembly, no template is applied. As an extension of the assembly environment, you use the weldment environment to perform all tasks included in the assembly environment, plus tasks that are specific to weldments.

Use the weldment environment to:. When you create or open a weldment file, you are in the weldment environment. The weldment environment contains all the same features and commands of the assembly environment. Additionally, there are commands that are optimized to the weldment manufacturing process. Use these commands to classify and manipulate three groups of assembly features. Optionally, you can create cosmetic or solid fillet and groove welds and associate them with model geometry.

Welds Displays assembly features that represent the actual weld. Assembly weld bead features can be cosmetic welds or solid fillet or groove welds and can only reside in the Welds feature group. Machining Displays assembly features that represent the post-weld machining and finishing.

Valid assembly features for machining include chamfers, extrude cuts, and holes. Browser filters On the browser toolbar. In both Assembly and Modeling Views, filters reduce the volume of information presented in the browser. Click to select a filter. Hide Work Features affects display of all Origin and global work features.

Feature-level work features display when a feature is expanded. Show Children Only affects display of all parent-level assemblies. Files that reside in a subfolder of the Templates folder appear other tabs in the New dialog box. Deciding what to include in a weldment template Any settings that streamline the creation of weldments or established default values can be included in a template.

Set and define the default weld bead material. Set the visibility and enabled status of the weld bead. Change the sizes of the origin work planes to accommodate the average size of the weldments you create. If you use differing units of measurement in different weldments, create separate templates for each.

Define the columns and format for the bill of materials. Use the View menu on the Weldment browser toolbar to configure the weldment browser to perform a set of related tasks. Click the down arrow beside the menu to change to Assembly or Modeling View. The difference between the browser configuration for Assembly and Modeling Views is:.

Change the active weld folder Right-click the weld folder and select Edit. The folder becomes active and commands on the Weld tab are unavailable or activated according to the active folder. On the ribbon, click Return to close the active weld folder and return to the weldment assembly.
